Chimps are strong!

This afternoon, as I watched Jamie easily climb and brachiate from one Young’s Hill structure to another, I was reminded of the amazing physical strength of a chimpanzee. There is some debate among the scientific community on exactly how much stronger chimps are compared to humans, but there is no doubt that they ARE in fact significantly stronger than us. This simple moment of leisure for Jamie is a good illustration of just why caregivers never enter the enclosures with the incredibly muscular, agile, and sometimes volatile Cle Elum 7.

As one of your past posts this month pointed out, Jamie is strong and smart. Her feet never touch the snow thanks to the power in strong her arms and hands! Go Jamie go!!

I always enjoy the photos of the chimps “tightrope walking”! Chimps are amazing.

They are truly AMAZING creatures and I’m totally smitten with them all!! If you look at pix 9 and especially 10 and just let your mind slip a bit, she could be hanging by her feet, with arms bent and butt as head or neck. So those arms are strong like legs. Love to you all!!

I am always amazed at the agility and strength of the Chimps as the climb from one structure to another They appear to have very little fat on their bodies. All muscle
