Tucked away
July 6, 2016 by Katelyn -
With things returning to normal after our recent brush fire and the warmth of summer, the chimpanzees have been tucked away relaxing for most of the day.
During a walk, Jamie chose to sit in the shade of the tall grass (while a certain caregiver accompanying her sweated it out in the hot sun until she gave the cue it was time to move on):
Jamie’s view at the time so I don’t blame her:
Negra enjoyed the breakfast forage from her shady cabin on Young’s Hill…:
…before making her way in for a nap:
And then there was this person relaxing every which way at the top of the toasty greenhouse:
Of course, it’s Foxie and Dora.

The view from the top of the hill looks like Gombe! No wonder Jamie is mesmerized. Her DNA kicked in. It is so beautiful out there in Cle Elum!
Shhh. Don’t tell everyone how nice it is here. Too many of them will want to move here and build their houses on those beautiful hills.
Karen and Don,
Perhaps so, I like that idea. 🙂 All the primates here are mesmerized by our views, we are so fortunate. I was thinking this evening that I can’t imagine the chimps’ lives without Young’s Hill.
Can you send me up dates on these special chimps by facebook?. My friend sends me the links sometimes i cant get them. Lori ellis
Hi Lori,
Thank you for your interest in the chimpanzees! We also post our daily blogs on our Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest Facebook page so if you go there you will be able to “Like”/”Follow” us and then you’ll receive our posts in your feed. Please let me know if you need more information. 🙂
Could you provide a link to the video of Jamie finding a picture of a snake in a book. I have looked and just can’t find it. Thanks.
Hi Barbara,
Yes, we love that video!! Here you go: https://staging.chimpsnw.org/2015/12/a-christmas-miracle/
Young’s Hill is a bit of paradise isn’t it?! And I just had an idea! The next structure that J.B. needs to build is a shaded ‘cabin’ on the top of the hill along the path where the caregivers walk (outside the chimps enclosure of course). This was you can all stay cool in the shade while the chimps stop to enjoy the lovely views. ; )
That’s an excellent idea, Kathleen! I’m sure JB will agree. 😉 Actually, we do have plans for another observation stand up there so that will be nice half-way point while Jamie sits in her crow’s nest.
