I love seeing the chimps on Young’s Hill with the forest as a backdrop. Though we can never return them to the wild, we can give them the next best thing. After living decades in the lab, I imagine it must feel pretty great to have open air, sunshine, and blue sky overhead. And the view isn’t too bad either.

These 7 deserving chimps are so lucky to have the love, care and continued quest by all involved in CSNW for even better days ahead if that is possible. The hill is the crowning jewel of the sanctuary and has allowed the chimps to be as free as they can be in a captive setting. I am sure if we could ask them, they would tell us that they don’t feel like captive chimps, just very lucky chimps! If you compare other sanctuary settings, such as sanctuaries with islands, there are many more chimps using 2 acres. Think of all of the territory the 7 have to themselves! And then there are the expansive views that make the space seem even larger! They are free to roam, to climb, feel the wind, the sun, protect their territory from elk just like chimps would do in the wild, and to just sit and to reflect on the beautiful scenery. The hill has allowed them all to get in shape! If they did not have all of the human effort behind them, their fates would be very different. So I salute all of you who work so hard to make the lives of the 7 so wonderful and that also includesvolunteers and donors. Without their generosity, none of this would be possible. A toast to you all!!
