Nesting in the Bamboo

We planted some bamboo in the greenhouse this morning. Since chimpanzees are naturally curious and destructive, the plants might not last long, but for now everyone’s leaving them alone for the most part. Jody, however, thinks they make prime nesting material.

Thanks so much to ProVitro Biosciences for the bamboo!

What a smart girl Miss Jody is! She seems to be enjoying making her nest.

definitely seems to know exactly how she wants it! It would be wonderful if enough of it was planted and allowed to grow so they could have an endless supply…. fat chance!

It’s so interesting watching them nest. At Jody’s rate, you’re right, the bamboo may not last long. Not only using it for nesting… do they eat it? Keep up the video’s. I love them!

They haven’t shown too much interest in eating the bamboo so far.

I’m so impressed! That girl is really a master at nesting.

I absolutely LOVE watching Jody nesting! Can you point me to a video her “dinosaur ” noise, or catch it on video? She’s brilliant (as are they ALL) in so many ways

Some of us have a vague memory of a past blog video featuring Jody’s dinosaur noise, but I wasn’t able to find it using the search function. I’ll try to get it on video soon.

I wonder how people can look at these wonderful creatures and say they’re NOT intelligent.

I agree with Benjamin–and add that any human who engages in cruelty to these beautiful, amazing and intelligent animals (and all animals) that we SHARE this planet with should be forced to go thru what they did. Since that will not be happening in the near future the battle to protect and honor them goes on. Please continue to show these wonderful videos of the Cle Elum Seven. Jodie can build a nest for me anytime!

Don’t you have some planted outside the fencing that can grow and be harvested for the chimps to enjoy making nests?
I loved watching Jody as she meticulously checked each branch before she placed it in her nest.

Very interesting indeed, as Jody inspects every leaf so astutely and masterfully. I feel so proud of Jody, She has come so far.. I absolutely love her so much. She is the first chimp I discovered on CSNW facebook. All the chimps never cease to amaze me.

BTW, a while back, somebody said it was only a matter of time that the chimps would start nesting outside. A nice start, IMHO.
