It’s been one celebration after another at the chimp house today. After we cleaned the playroom, we decorated and put out little boxes with pecans in the shell. Jamie had a strategy in mind and gathered a bunch.

After the forage, Annie enjoyed taking down some of the decorations that Patti brought for the day.

Then she and Missy played with the decorations for a while. I love this photo of Annie lovingly gazing at Missy.

Lunch was the first Thanksgiving feast of the day with baked potatoes, apples and Brussels sprouts (thanks to volunteer Denice for making the baked potatoes in advance). Watch the video below and listen to the food squeaking-Thanksgiving-happiness.

And now they are having yet another feast – Thanksgiving dinner, complete with Field Roast, baked sweet potatoes and cranberries with apples.

So thankful that the Cle Elum crew is having another beautiful Thanksgiving and very thankful for those who work so hard to make this possible and even more thankful for Burrito’s food squeaks, one of the most expressive noises on earth!

We agree on Burrito’s food squeaks!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! It looks as though their lunch meal was absolutely delicious! I hope you all took a bit of a rest today too and enjoyed. But, of course, I know it’s just so rewarding and feels so good for you to see the 7 so happy, healthy and celebrating the day. It certainly is a day to be thankful that they were rescued from their dungeons!

Wanda – most of the staff and several volunteers came together for a vegan Thanksgiving feast after we closed up the chimp house for the night. I think I heard a few food squeaks from the humans as well!

Seeing the 7 so happy is the icing on my Thanksgiving. 🙂 What was Negra doing with Burrito at the beginning of the video? Was she looking for reassurance?

    • Diana on November 23, 2012 at 10:06 am

My interpretation – it was a submissive greeting, which chimpanzees do in exciting situations like food forages. .

That’s interesting. Elephants do the same thing. If they feel friendly and/or submissive, they back up to another ele

Negra!! Oh my, at meal time too. That’s like watching your grandma hit on someone’s grandpa.

    • Diana on November 23, 2012 at 10:03 am

My interpretation of Negra’s behavior was she was just greeting Burrito submissively, and he ignored her. Nothing inappropriate!
